Georgio Konstandi is a Bosnian Genocide researcher and MA graduate in Southeast European Studies at University College London (UCL), where he graduated with a Distinction. He wrote his master’s thesis on expressions of anger in Bosniak literature. He completed an internship at The Times in 2021 and at the Srebrenica Memorial Center in 2022. Georgio is the founder of the genocide educational project, Voices from the Drina, which simulates a newsfeed to imagine how the Bosnian War would have looked like had it unfolded on social media.

Every year, the world is united in grief for the victims of genocide. In January, we remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust. In July, we commemorate the more than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys who were killed in Srebrenica. In recent years, memorialisations of the Holocaust and Srebrenica have increasingly involved closer cooperation between educators in both communities.

The Fight Against Partitionist Violence in Cyprus and Bosnia Must Be Understood as a Shared Struggle
The Levantine island of Cyprus and the Balkan nation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) are not, for most, two places thought of as sharing a common history. For me however, as a Cypriot genocide researcher whose work focuses on the 1990s war in Bosnia, I have never stopped drawing parallels between these two 'post-conflict' spaces.
